The pact is a horror movie that's done in a way that makes it different to other horror movies at that time, and i'm talking about slow build up and suspense. It's very rare to see a good horror movie these days. At first, it started as a ghost story, then moved the momentum to some kind of a detective one and ends in mixing these two types.

Given the pact's relative obscurity, you might be inclined to lump it in with other dtv (direct to video) schlock, but you would be wrong in doing so. The plot of the pact is actually good and attractive. Unsettling debut the pact, a story of a mother’s fight to save her diabetic daughter’s life, is elegant, very atmospheric and cleverly worked. The pact, originally released as a short by nicholas mccarthy to the sundance film festival, and made into a feature once funding was secured on the back of those reviews and accolades, is a mixed bag of horror/thriller and cliché. The film’s ending, a warning from one character that “it’s starting again,” all but confirms a third pact will be on its way if the pact 2 proves successful enough.
